Available for sessions in Central Texas and beyond.

Based in Austin, I am available to families in the central Texas area and, at select times of the year, beyond.

Ready to book a session? Or have more questions? Send me a message and I’ll be in touch shortly.

    The Experience

little sister drags bigger sister playfully outside

When I was little, my older brother and I used to argue over who got to clean out the bottom of the lawn mower. No joke. After my dad finished, he would flip the mower on its side, give us a flat head screwdriver, and we would gleefully scrape away at it until all of the grass fell off. I can still smell the freshly cut grass when I think about it.

Now, as an adult, I wish I had a photo of this. I wish I had a photo that captured our arguments, the joy and laughter, and my dad’s smile as he watched two of his kids get weirdly excited over something so mundane.

These tiny, in-between moments so often go unnoticed. They’re simple and commonplace. But in the end, these moments turn into our most cherished memories. They make us smile, laugh, and, sometimes, cry. And they are every bit as important and worth preserving as life’s bigger milestones.

    Let's tell your story

Whether you want to preserve your morning routine, evening rituals, or your entire day, your family’s story is unique, beautiful, and something to be celebrated.

Want to document something else, like a date night, life event, your pet’s personality, or your family’s vacation? I’d love to capture those stories too!

    A quick chat

Let’s talk! Tell me more about yourself and the story you’re interested in preserving.

    We “meet”

Thanks to COVID, we’ll meet virtually.  This is the time for your family to get to know me better so that it feels like a friend coming over during your session and not a stranger.

    Your storytelling session

Good news, you don’t have to prepare anything before I arrive! You don’t have to wear anything special, clean your house, or even change your clothes. I want this experience to be easy and fun. I want it to feel like an old friend, who just happens to have a camera, is coming over to spend the day with you.

    Ordering your art

You will receive your slideshow via a private gallery and will be able to order any products from there.

    Product delivery

I will deliver your art to you, ready to display or hang on your walls!

    Meet Alix

I met my husband within the first three months of grad school. I kicked his a** at darts on our first date and the rest is history. Five years later,  we got married in the Texas hill country.

I’m mildly obsessed with my furbaby, Burt. He’s a rescue from a local shelter. Our once shy, scared, snappy pup has turned into a Grade A snuggler who loves to defend the homestead, play with his humans, and eat all the snacks.

I’m one of three, the middle child sandwiched between two brothers.  I never wanted any sisters but consider my closest friends to be just that, some of whom I’ve known for twenty years.

I once considered becoming a wilderness EMT.  Instead, I joined a local wilderness search and rescue team and am now one of the field training officers.

I love traveling but don’t care much for sightseeing. I prefer to stay for a prolonged period of time, getting to know people and communities on a deeper level. Favorite experiences: living with an elephant-keeping community in northern Thailand and working with women farmers in northern India.

Road trips are my favorite, especially when they include camping. My favorite spots – South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Swaziland, Uganda and Rwanda.

I’ve committed my adult life to public service. I’ve worked with nonprofits and local governments throughout the US and abroad on projects related to affordable housing, economic security, ecotourism, environmental stewardship, youth development, and disaster relief and response.

I learned that life doesn’t always turn out the way you expect. Sometimes it’s better. Three years ago, I stumbled upon the book It’s What I Do by Lynsey Addario at my local library and it changed my life: I picked up my camera again, discovered the wonderful world of documentary family photography, and fell back in love with the simplicity and beauty of every day life.

Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray. -Rumi

    The session

A Day in the Life (DITL) session is a new way of capturing your family’s story. No coordinated outfits or posing required. Read more here.

A Day in the Life (DITL) session can range from a few hours to the entire day. By spending 12+ hours with a family, from morning until night, I am better able to document your family’s story. It also helps everyone to relax: the longer I’m there, the more readily people are able to be themselves.

Absolutely! Your life may feel fairly routine to you but I promise your days are filled with so many wonderfully special and unique moments.

Not going to lie, it feels a little weird at first. I promise I won’t be the silent paparazzi in the corner. We will meet beforehand and it will feel more like having a friend over. I’ll interact with you and may even get involved in whatever activities you are doing.

Whatever you normally do! I know it is not the type of session you’re used to doing but I promise, the more you stick to your normal routine and activities, the more genuine the experience and photos will be. If you do want to plan an activity, I recommend it is something you and your family love doing already.

Personally, I’m a huge fan of PJs and sweatpants, but the beauty of Day in the Life (DITL) sessions is that you get to wear whatever you want. No coordinated outfits needed. Wear whatever you are comfortable in and whatever you would normally wear doing what you do.

Leave it! We feel pressure to have clean homes but life happens. Some people may be able to have beautifully clean homes but if that isn’t you, don’t worry about it. It’s all part of your story.

Most definitely. I will be doing what I can to get the shot, which may include standing on counters or laying in the dirt in your backyard.

Great! Send me a message and we’ll get started.

    After the session

Your photos will be delivered within 2-4 weeks depending on the time of year.

You will receive access to your personal gallery and from there you can select your products, including prints, albums, and other wall art.

After inspecting your order for quality, I will hand deliver them to you as soon as I can.
